
The Simple Solution
Knowing the real reason why they’re not ready tells us what we need to do to help them become ready. We can never be in control of a situation until we can define the cause and effect relationships at work — why they’re not ready.
Are they unable because they’re unwilling?
The underlying problem is usually emotional — fear. Or, for some people, it’s just plain lack of interest.
The solution is to “sell” them on WHY they should do it — the benefits to them and how they’ll feel about it. We have to create a clear, desirable VISION for them of what it will be like to achieve those benefits and advantages.
Are they unwilling because they’re unable?
Here, the problem is lack of practical know-how. So the obvious answer is to tell them how to do it. Teach them the knowledge and skills they need. Role play the process so that they can develop the skills and discover their strengths and weaknesses.
Once you’ve helped them overcome whatever their weakness was, they’re willing and able.
