MLM Boobytraps!
by John Counsel
Pyramid Selling
MLM – or network marketing – is such a simple business you’d think it would be virtually foolproof.
It’s not.
There’s no shortage of… well… fools!… who think that you can build success and long-term financial security using a mixture of fear, ignorance, greed, laziness and stupidity. Sadly, there are plenty of people with those very attributes who are willing to follow their advice. Fool proof? No way.
The problem for the intelligent, ethical network marketer is that, even though these schemes and scams never last, they do a lot of damage to public perceptions of the industry. And they keep on bobbing up as fresh crops of ignorant, fearful, lazy, greedy, foolish people enter the industry and begin looking for ways to avoid the necessary investment of time, effort and discipline.

Here’s the list of boobytraps we’ll be considering in this section. Those shown as active links are on line now. Others will come on line in the next few weeks. And, as other “ingenious” boobytraps appear from time to time (as they always do), we’ll expose them here as quickly as we can.
By the way, if you encounter any we haven’t listed, you’re welcome to e-mail us details here.Is there a simple, foolproof way to recognise a boobytrap in MLM?
Yes!
This is an industry in which you have to invest time and effort (NOT MONEY!) because all worthwhile achievement takes time, effort and discipline in order to succeed (see “The Four Cornerstones of Success”). It’s also utterly dependent on the quality and durability of the personal relationships involved.
Any method or scheme which claims to eliminate the need for time, effort or discipline, or which puts personal relationships at risk, or encourages you to invest money, is almost certainly a boobytrap.
Treat it with the suspicion it deserves.
It may be a legitimate business opportunity – it just may be the particular person or distributor organisation who’s trying to recruit you. In that case, give them a wide berth and find someone who’s building that business properly, with genuine integrity and intelligence. The Four Great Fallacies of Network Marketing
